Revolution Lighting Technologies Continues Penetration of Municipal Sector With Recent LED Projects
Revolution Lighting's In-House Engineering Teams Design Customized LED Retrofit Solution for City of Bellingham, Wa, Existing Historic Post Top Fixtures
STAMFORD, CT -- (Marketwired) -- 02/10/16 -- Revolution Lighting Technologies (NASDAQ: RVLT), a leader in advanced LED lighting technology solutions, today announced the completion of more than $900,000 of recent municipal LED projects. This includes a recently completed LED project for Northwest Edison and the City of Bellingham, WA, partnering to design and construct a customized LED solution, retrofitted within existing street light fixtures.
Northwest Edison is a full service electrical contractor and a leader in designing and installing energy efficient lighting and lighting control systems throughout the western U.S. This LED retrofit project included upgrading the exterior "decorative" street lighting fixtures to LED as part of the "Smart Cities" program, including the installation of Revolution Lighting's LED "Lindy" lamp post fixtures throughout the City of Bellingham. Revolution Lighting's engineering teams worked closely with the municipality's project team to address specific project requirements, integrating "smart" control solutions within its fixtures to provide a comprehensive energy management network among the city's streetlights. In addition, lamp post fixtures located within the city's historic district required Revolution Lighting's engineering team to specially design and construct LED modules and controls that fit within existing streetlight housing.
Other recent municipal projects throughout the U.S. worked closely with Revolution Lighting's sales and engineering teams to develop and complete equally successful retrofit programs, occurring in communities in California, Washington, Wisconsin and Virginia. Revolution Lighting's success among U.S. municipalities is a clear indicator for its continued focus and market penetration in 2016.
"Revolution Lighting's engineering teams are well adapted to address a customer's unique project requirements, designing and manufacturing specialized LED technical solutions," said Vincent Alonzi, Group President, Revolution Lighting Technologies. "Our Oxford, Michigan engineering team worked closely with Northwest Edison and the City of Bellingham's project manager to successfully customize an LED solution that integrated with the existing housings of historically relevant streetlight fixtures that needed to be preserved."
Dan Camilleri, President of Northwest Edison stated that, "Although this was a unique and challenging project, the collaborative team consisting of the Municipality, ESCO, electrical contractor and Revolution Lighting Technologies delivered an elegant example of how you meld cutting edge technology with historically significant elements."
"We are excited to work closely with municipalities, including the City of Bellingham, to successfully develop critical technical solutions that address specialized project requirements," said Robert V. LaPenta, CEO and Chairman of Revolution Lighting Technologies. "Our engineering teams possess the professional experience, industry knowledge, and technical skill to support Revolution Lighting's continued penetration within municipal government sectors in 2016."
Currently, there are an estimated 26.5 million streetlights in the United States, with approximately half of these operated by the public sector and a total energy cost of $2 billion annually, representing a significant opportunity for Revolution Lighting Technologies. Upgrading aged streetlight fixtures to LED with integral control solutions will significantly improve energy efficiency by more than 60%, and combined with significantly longer lamp life of greater than 70,000 hours, will reduce long term maintenance costs.
